Who We Are

Born from Curiosity

Iris-zone started in 2018 when a group of friends—an architect, a food writer, and a historian—realised they spent every weekend showing visiting friends around their favourite urban corners. What began as informal walks evolved into something more structured when strangers started asking to join.

Today, we operate across eight Australian cities with a network of 35 guides who share our belief that the best way to understand a place is through the people who shape it daily. We are not a bus tour company. We are your well-connected local friend.

Beyond the Guidebook

Guidebooks tell you where to go. We show you why it matters. Every tour we design answers the question visitors rarely think to ask: what makes this neighbourhood feel alive right now?

That means introducing you to the barista who knows everyone's name, the laneway that locals use as a shortcut, or the mural that appeared overnight and sparked a neighbourhood debate. These moments cannot be scripted, but they can be discovered with the right guide.

We do not dress in costumes or shout through megaphones. Our guides speak naturally, share genuinely, and treat you as a curious friend rather than a ticket holder. The experience feels real because it is.

Every tour puts money directly into local pockets. We buy from independent vendors, tip generously, and only partner with businesses that share our values. Tourism should lift communities, not extract from them.

Continuous Discovery

Cities change constantly, and so do our tours. Our guides spend part of every month exploring new openings, talking to residents, and testing routes. What you experience is always current.

Guides Who Live What They Share

Our guides are not actors reading scripts. They are architects who can explain why a building works, chefs who know where to find the freshest produce, historians who have spent years researching the stories beneath the pavement.

We recruit for passion first. Training comes second. You cannot teach someone to love a city, but you can help them share that love effectively. Our guides undergo weeks of preparation, shadowing experienced colleagues before leading their own groups.
